Brother R. Todd Ridder, S.M., Ph.D.

Prepared by Fr. Gerald T. Chinchar, S.M.

Suddenly and unexpectedly on September 14, the feast of the Triumph of the Cross, 53 year old Marianist Brother Todd Ridder suffered a heart attack, while at his community residence, and could not be revived by paramedics or hospital personnel.

Brother Todd's life long interest in liturgy and all kinds of music shaped his academic and professional pursuits.

He joined the Academy while still in doctoral studies and under the mentorship of Benedictine Sr. Mary Collins.

Hailing from Youngstown, Ohio, proud of his Swedish and Hungarian ancestry, dedicated in his Marianist vocation, enthusiastic about everything he did from sending humorous email to leading the “Schola Cantorum,” Brother Todd will be missed by many.
