Seminar Report 2004
The bulk of our seminar work this year focused on continued discussion of our publication project concerning denominational approaches to use of music in worship. The discussion has taken a great deal of time because so much variation exists in denominational understandings of worship, musical forms and styles used in worship, and terminology that arriving at a uniform format for the content of this publication has been difficult. We reviewed and modified a project outline prepared by Scott Weidler and Alan Hommerding; agreed that our end product will be aimed primarily at musicians who are leading music in worship traditions other than their own; discussed drafts dealing with the Lutheran, the Episcopalian, and the Roman Catholic traditions; and set deadline dates for completion.
Victor Gebauer updated the group on progress being made by his interdenominational task force coordinating the study of the history of American church music.
